More details

Huge admirer of South American culture and mostly the Mexican one, Amaury Dubois gives us, through his Calaveras pictures, his own breath of life.

Celebrate this crossing not as a finality, but as a new start, that is the story behind the day of the deceased (Dia de los Muertos) that firstly took place in Mexico. Those rites, dedicated to ancestors in south-american civilisations, started 3000 years before our era. It is an occasion for populations to go in the streets, party and dress up to commemorate the deceased by showing up in colorful and flowery costumes.

Just like the pictures of Calaveras, the artist shows us a festive and colorful dimension of this moment and a sacralisation of this crossing so decried in our occidental culture. The use of bright colors, the turquoise background and the flowery shapes contradicts the central presence of the Mexican skull from which re-emerges nature and life. A fresh start, a rebirth to a rich and intense future existence

Here we have a Comteporary and colorfull oil painting on canvas of 146x114cm.
